GENERATION 1

 

George Granville Graves (1) was born Oct. 1818 or 22 Nov. 1819 in either Brooklyn, N.Y. or Pennsylvania, and died 22 May 1876 in Alice Community, near Conrad, Grundy Co., Iowa. Mrs. Rolston says one source claims George was fifth of a family of twelve children. He first married Irene F. Stevens, daughter of Nathan Stevens 2nd and Phoebe Scovell of Stevensville, Pa., on 27 March 1842. She was born 27 March 1825 and died 4 Sept. 1853. He secondly married Irene's sister, Sarah Julia Stevens, on 5 Oct. 1854 in either Stevensville, Pa. or Lanark, Ill. She was born 5 Oct. 1834 in Stevensville, Pa. and died 9 Oct. 1902 in Jackson, Tenn. They were both buried in Alice Cem., Grundy Co., Iowa. George and his second wife Sarah lived in Lanark, Ill. He was sheriff of Carroll Co., Ill. during the Civil War. In 1869 they moved to a farm in Jones Co., Iowa, and to Clay Twp., Grundy Co., Iowa in 1872. (R-1)

Eliza Ann Graves (1a) may have been a sister of George Granville Graves. She married Edward C. Clapp on 15 Nov. 1840 in Luzerne Co., Pa. He was born 3 July 1819 near Syracuse, N.Y., and died 26 June 1902. They moved to Fulton, Ill. in 1869. In 1871 they went to Jones Co., Iowa, and around 1880 they moved to Wyoming, Iowa. They were parents of six children, 4 boys and 2 girls. In 1902, only two sons were still living, Clark and Cyrus. (R-1)

CHILDREN OF GEORGE GRANVILLE GRAVES (1)

Dr. McKenzie Nathan ("Ken") Graves (3) was born 5 April 1850 in Stevensville, Pa., and died 24 May 1916. He married Emma I. DuBoise (or DuBois) on 25 Dec. 1873. She was born 1 March 1852. They lived in Los Angeles, Calif., according to a small genealogy titled Stevens, Brief Record of the Stevens Family, by James Stevens Keeney, Seattle, Wash., 1916. However, Mrs. Rolston says he practiced medicine in N.Y. City. (R-1)

18. Leon McKenzie Graves, b. 8 March 1876 (57 Fifth Ave., N.Y. City, N.Y.), m. Adalade V. Haynes, 27 Aug. 1904. No children.

 

Edward Skeel Graves (6) was born 11 Sept. 1855 and died 29 Oct. 1911. He married Mabel M. Lewis on 20 Sept. 1885. They lived in Akron, Colorado. (R-1)

Nellie Bixby Graves (10) was born 19 Jan. 1865 in Wyoming, Iowa. She married William J. Lyon in Dec. 1883. (R-1)

Flora Maria Graves (11) was born 15 Sept. 1867 in Lanark, Ill., and died in Feb. 1938 in Grundy Center, Iowa. She married George Washington Morrison, son of Isaiah Morrison and Caroline Gahring, on 17 Sept. 1885 in Grundy Center. He was born 11 Nov. 1863 in Fayette Co., Pa., and died 13 April 1931 in Grundy Center, Iowa. They were both buried in Grundy Center. (R-1)

Arvilla Vivian Morrison (31) was born 16 March 1892 in Grundy Center, Iowa, and died 16 June 1919 in Washington Township, Grundy Co., Iowa. She married Oran Russell Brasted, son of George J. Brasted and Abigail Lois Stafford, in Nov. 1916 in Washington Twp., Grundy Co., Iowa. He was born 1 Jan. 1890 in Palermo Twp., Grundy Co., Iowa, and died in Grundy Center, Iowa. They were both buried in Grundy Center. (R-1)
