DESCENDANTS OF THADEUS GRAVES OF NY & OH

GENERATION 1

Thadeus Graves (1) was born about 1787 in NY. He may have married more than once. His wife in 1850 may have been Nancy ‑‑‑‑‑‑. He is in the 1850 and 1860 censuses for Clay, Scioto Co., OH, with Nancy born about 1815-1821 in PA or Ireland, and it is not clear whether she was his wife or his daughter, but she was probably his wife.

This Thadeus Graves may be the father of Thadeus Graves of genealogy 59, born about 1815, and may be the one discussed in that genealogy who lived in Ross Co., OH before 1850.

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF THADEUS GRAVES (1)

Alfred Graves (3) was born about 1835 in Richmond City, (Jefferson Co. ?), OH. He married Elizabeth Wellman on 1 Oct. 1857 in Wayne Co., VA (later WV). She was born about 1839 in Wayne Co., VA (later WV). They apparently moved to Boyd Co., KY (on the border with WV), since their son was born there. Elizabeth probably remarried by no later than 1865, so Alfred had probably died by then.

There was an Elizabeth Wellman, 21 in the 1860 census for Wayne Co., VA, in the household of James Wellman, but no sign of Anson, although there was an Auston Wellman, 1, male, in the household. That was probably Anson, since James Wellman, 58, and his wife Nancy were too old for it to be their child.

Elizabeth married second Silas F. Reynolds by 1865. They were listed in the 1870 and 1880 censuses for Butler, Wayne Co., WV. Anson Graves was living with them in both years. (R‑1)

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF ALFRED GRAVES (3) AND ELIZABETH WELLMAN

Anson Graves (6) was born about 1858 in Boyd Co., KY. He married Frances Workman on 5 Aug. 1880 in Wayne Co., WV. She was born about 1861 in Wayne Co., VA (later WV). They were in the 1900 and 1910 censuses for Butler, Wayne Co., WV. The 1920 census for Butler listed only Frances Graves, widow, and her son Jay. Anson was a laborer doing odd jobs in 1910. All their children were born in WV, except for Lutie born in KY. (R‑1)

7. Lutie Graves, b. 1881 (Lawrence Co., KY), m. P. E. Vicars, 30 Nov. 1899 (Wayne Co., WV). He was b. 1869 in Hancock Co., TN.

10. Frankie Graves, b. 5 March 1891 (Louisa, Lawrence Co., KY), m. Elisha Crabtree, 24 Dec. 1908 (Louisa, Lawrence Co., KY), d. 11 Sept. 1975 (Huntington, Cabell Co., WV). He was b. 20 May 1881 in Ft. Gay, Wayne Co., WV, and d. 16 Sept. 1944 in Logan, Logan Co., WV.

11. Charles (“Charley”) Graves, b. March 1893.

12. Hester Graves, b. May 1895, m. Jonah Porter.

13. James Graves, b. Sept. 1897.

14. Elizabeth (“Lizzie”) Graves, b. April 1900, m. Fred Wilson.

15. Jay Graves, b.c. 1903.
