DESCENDANTS OF JAMES C. GRAVES AND LUCY McCOY OF TX

GENERATION 1

James C. Graves (1) married Lucy McCoy. They married and/or lived in Teague, Freestone Co., TX, a little east of Waco. In the 1900 census, Lucy was shown as born in Feb. 1871 in Texas, and living at 811 Richie St., Houston, TX, in the household of Charles F. Moore, her brother-in-law.

According to family rumor, James was either absent or in some kind of trouble at the time of the 1900 census. He is said to have gone to Mexico at one point, perhaps serving in the Mexican war. He contracted yellow fever from which he later died. As to when he died, all that is known is that it was when his son, James, was young, perhaps around 1910. It is also said that James worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, perhaps traveling between Texas and Mississippi.

After James died, Lucy apparently remarried, and had one son and one daughter. Because these two children later lived in Mississippi, it is thought that James C. Graves may have been from there. (R-1)
