They were in the 1841, 1851, 1861, and 1871 censuses for Lowdham, Notts. The 1851 census showed his name as Graves. He was a farmer, and had 31 acres in 1861. He married Mary Beecroft, daughter of George Beecroft and Ann Rastall, on 25 July 1840 in Nottinghamshire. She was born about 1817 (or 1815) and died 18 Nov. 1889, both in Lowdham, Notts. They were in the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, and 1881 censuses for Lowdham, Notts. His widowed mother was living with them in 1841. He must mave married second Sarah ‑‑‑‑‑‑, born about 1831, since she was listed as his wife in the 1891 census for Lowdham. He was a farmer through 1861, and a cottager after that. Elizabeth Greaves (14) was born about 1836 in Lowdham, Nottinghamshire. She married Henry Goodall Berry. He was born about 1827 in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. They were in the 1871 and 1881 censuses for Alfreton, Derbyshire, hamlet of Swanwick (about 2 miles from Alfreton). He was listed as a joiner in 1871 and a carpenter in 1881. All their children were born in Alfreton except for Alfred who was born in Nottingham (according to the censuses for Alfreton). However, the 1881 census for Lowdham shows children Betsy and Frank living with the grandmother Charlotte Greaves, with Betsy born in Somercotes and Frank born in Leabrooks, both in Derbyshire, close to Alfreton.

She was born about 1848 in Woodborough, Notts. Their first 2 children were born in Lowham, and all the others in Epperstone, Notts. The 1891 census for Epperstone, Notts., listed Mary A. Greaves, widow, her children and 2 farm labourer servants, Albert Davies, 20, and Samuel North, 18. The 1901 census for Epperstone, Notts., showed that Mary Anne had remarried Samuel North, 33, agricultural labourer, she was then only admitting to being 45, and children Robert, Harry, William, and Pellie were living with them. Their first 7 children were born in Lowdham, Notts., and the last 2 in Epperston.. (R‑3)
