William Alexander Graves (1) was born about 1846, and died 3 Nov. 1920 in the registration district of Chorlton, sub-district of Didsbury, county of Manchester, England. He died of heart failure and cancer of the bladder. He died at 172 Cecil (or Court?) Street, and his death certificate was witnessed by his daughter, M. H. Bowers (?). He married ------.
William was said to be a ship's captain from Northern Ireland, although another story is that he was born in Dublin, Ireland. There is believed to be a connection with a tobacco plantation in America. He supposedly made a lot of money in tobacco in America, lost it, and then settled in Manchester, England with his family. His death certificate lists him as a clerk in a tobacco factory. (R-1)
