DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE GREAVES AND ELIZABETH STOGDALE OF HOWDEN & EASTRINGTON, YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND

GENERATION 1

George Greaves (1) was born about 1794 in Howden, Yorkshire.  He married Elizabeth Stogdale.  She was born about 1801 in Howden.  They were in the 1841 census for Bubwith, and in the 1851 and 1861 censuses for Eastrington, Yorkshire.  Their surname was spelled Graves in the 1851 census.  Her widowed mother, Isabella (“Bella”) Stogdale, was living with them in 1861.  Bella was apparently a widow as far back as 1841, since she was then without a husband in Spaldington, Bubwith, Yorkshire.  George was a farmer in 1841, a farmer and pauper in 1851, and an agricultural laborer in 1861.  All their children were born in Yorkshire.

CHILDREN OF GEORGE GREAVES (1) AND ELIZABETH STOGDALE

Robert Greaves (2) was born about 1823 in Howden, Yorkshire.  He first married Ann ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  She was born about 1823 in Butterwick Lincolnshire.  He married second Ann ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  She was born about 1842 in Lees, Lancashire.  Robert and his brother George were police constables in Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire, in the 1851 census.  Robert and his first wife were in the 1861 and 1871 censuses for Holy Trinity Parish, Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire.  Robert and his second wife were in the 1881 census for Holy Trinity, Hull, Yorkshire.  He was clerk of police in 1861, a dock laborer in 1871, and a shipping clerk in 1881.  Ann was a confectioner in 1881.
