DESCENDANTS OF JAMES GRAVES AND MARY ANN RASIN

OF MARYLAND OR DELAWARE

GENERATION 1

James Graves (1) was born about 1805 in Maryland.  He married Mary Ann Rasin, daughter of Philip Rasin and Sarah Bennett, on 12 July 1841.  She was born about 1819 in MD, and died about 1905.  They were in the 1850 census for District 2, Kent Co., MD, page 214, and in the 1860 census for District 1, Kent Co., MD, Chesterton P.O., page 6.  In 1850, Emily Raisin, 17, was living with them.  His occupation was teacher in 1850 and constable in 1860.

There were only 2 white Graves families in Kent Co., MD in 1850, the family of James Graves and that of William Graves.  The 1850 census for Dist. 1, Kent Co., MD, page 258, listed William Graves, 50, farmer, Eliza, 50, Lavinia C., 18, Mary G., 15, and Adam Graves, 35, black, all born in MD.  Perhaps the families were related.  (R‑1)
