EXHIBIT BOOTH AT NGS CONFERENCE IN RICHMOND, VA & GRAVES FAMILY GATHERING

The National Genealogical Society will be holding its annual conference in Richmond, VA from Wed., May 12 through Sat., May 15, headquartered at the Richmond Marriott Hotel. The Graves Family Association will have an exhibit booth in the exhibit hall at the Richmond Centre (adjacent to the hotel), located at 400 East Marshall, Richmond, VA.

The exhibit hall will be open the following hours:

* Wed., 10:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

* Thurs., 9:00 a.m.-5:30 a.m.

* Fri., 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

* Sat., 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

I had originally hoped to organize a Graves Family Reunion the weekend before the NGS Conference. That will not be happening. However, I will be at the Conference and will be at the exhibit booth much of the time. You are invited to stop by and talk about the GFA and your Graves ancestry at any time. I will also be available for impromptu lunch or dinner any day except Friday.

We also need volunteers to help staff the GFA booth. Any amount of time you can spare would be very helpful and much appreciated. I plan to attend some of the talks, so I can't be at the booth the entire time.

GRAVES FAMILY ASSOCIATION WEB SITE

(http://www.gravesfa.org)

The section of Graves/Greaves ancestors and genealogies is constantly being added to. The plan is to have genealogies or some information about every ancestor on the list. On average, there are new genealogies added every couple of weeks. If a genealogy of interest to you is listed but the genealogy itself has not yet been added, let me know and I can add it.

Information on the site is gradually being expanded. If you want information or capability that is not there now, let me know and (even better) volunteer to add it. In the future, we plan to add special interest and geographical pages, queries, and links to segments of genealogies from other pages. As we have time, we will also be adding information about the research project to find the earlier ancestry of all ancestors, especially those who were original immigrants to America.

I am happy to report that we are beginning to get volunteers for various projects and tasks. However, most of the need for volunteers discussed on the website still exists.

Take a look at the site, and let us have your comments and suggestions.

GRAVES FAMILY NEWSLETTER SCHEDULE

We are working hard to get caught up with the publishing of the newsletter. The October issue has been mailed. The December issue will be mailed when I return from Richmond, and the Feb. and April issues will be mailed about the end of May.

We appreciate the great interest in the sections of the October newsletter about Capt. Thomas Graves and where he lived on the eastern shore of Virginia, and the Descendants of Zenas Graves (descended from Thomas Graves of Hartford, CT), father of Franklin Ward Graves of the tragic Donner Party. Extra copies of this issue are available at $5 per copy.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR GRAVES FAMILY ASSOCIATION

On the GFA website is a list of many of the areas where help is needed. If you are especially interested in some subject or activity, please volunteer. The GFA staff is you, and helping each other is what we do. Some areas of need are:

ARTICLES AND QUERIES FOR THE GRAVES FAMILY NEWSLETTER

Submitted articles and queries are welcomed from anyone, whether a member or not. We are interested in all Graves/Greaves families everywhere and want to be of as much help as possible to those wanting to learn more. Other than being pertinent to a Graves or Greaves family, the only requirement is that we must have your name and postal mailing address (since some readers don't yet have e-mail).

EASTMAN'S ONLINE GENEALOGY NEWSLETTER

There are a number of free, online genealogy newsletters. The best of them (in my opinion) is "Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter", published weekly by Richard W. Eastman. To subscribe, send an e-mail message to listserv@peach.ease.lsoft.com. The message title is unimportant. The only line of text in the message must have the words SUBSCRIBE ROOTSCOMPUTING followed by your first and last names. For instance, if your name is Jane Doe, you would write a message of:

Subscribe rootscomputing Jane Doe
