Revised 30 Sept. 1992, Gen. 253

Taylor Graves (1) was born in Ireland. He moved from Dublin, Ireland to Liverpool, England. He lived 7 years in Liverpool on Paradise St. Then he moved to the U.S., where he stayed 2 years, working on the Miss. Central Railroad. He went back to England and got 2 brothers (not known whether these were his brothers or his son Jessie and Jessie's 2 brothers). They worked in the U.S. 2 years, then sent for the rest of the family. There were 9 or 10 boys, 1 girl, and mother and father (not clear whether this referred to Taylor and wife, or Taylor's mother and father).

At least some of the family apparently moved to New Orleans 3 years before the Civil War. Three of the brothers fought in the War. All Taylor's children were apparently born in Ireland. (R-1)

Jessie Preston Graves (2) was born in Ireland, and probably died about 1915-20 around Pine Bluff, AR. He first married ------ Malcolm. He bought 250 acres of land south of Corsicana, Navarro Co., TX for 10 cents an acre. His wife died of typhoid. She had 7 children, one a boy named Ben who lived in Jessie's second household after his mother died.

Jessie secondly married Irene McGee (or McGhee), daughter of Tom McGee. Tom died 3 months before Irene was born, and she may have been raised by an uncle.

Jessie left Corsicana, TX about 1905, went to Wolf City, TX, then to LA. He bought a half interest in Martin, Stevenson Shows, then sold out and went to Miss. (perhaps to see his brother). Then he went back to LA, and then to AR and worked for John Sturgen's mill at Bodcaw Bridge near Stamps, AR. He was living at Walker's Creek when his wife Irene died about 1910-13 and was buried at Mars Hill Cem. south of Stamps in Lewisville, AR.

Jessie put Rachel, Daniel and David in an orphanage (perhaps Methodist). The family heard he died around Pine Bluff, AR. (R-1)
