She was born 28 Dec. 1821 in Castle Camps, Cambridgeshire, and died in 1870. Their first child was born in Castle Camps, and all the others in Ashdon, Essex. They were in the 1851 and 1861 censuses for Ashdon, Essex, with her widowed mother living with them in 1851. He was in the 1871 census for Ashdon, without Susan. He was an agricultural labourer. Susan was in the 1841 census for Castle Camps, living with her mother Mary cowling, 50, presumably widowed, and her brothers and sisters. Richard could not be found in the 1841 census. Their first child, Ann, was born in Castle Camps, Cambridgeshire or in Ashdon, Essex, and all the others were born in Ashdon, Essex. There is a possibility that Ann was not a daughter of Richard.
It is sometimes difficult to explain and even to understand juristrictions in England. For instance, a map of Essex shows Stratord and West Ham next to each other, but Stratford is also part of West Ham parish in Essex. Stratford is a town in east London, within the ceremonial county of Greater London, but in the historic county of Essex. (R‑1, R‑2)
